A Complete Guide on How to Clean Doona Stroller

I have been traveling with my two children since they were very young. I used a stroller for walking and a separate car seat for riding a car when traveling. That was quite a hassle as I needed extra storage space in the car to keep the stroller.

Then, one day, a friend told me about the Doona Stroller, which is like a stroller with a car seat. You can use it in two ways. I quickly got the Doona Stroller and found it very comfortable to use.

However, the most attention should be paid to cleanliness and hygiene while using strollers because a clean stroller has much to do with a baby’s well-being. That’s why I am here to tell you about this doona stroller cleaning method. Let’s find out.

What is a Doona Stroller?

Doona is the first stroller that can be converted from a car seat to a stroller in seconds. Its unique design allows you to comfortably use it while traveling in the car or bus without disturbing your sleeping baby while climbing stairs or walking.

Gathering Cleaning Tools

Before cleaning the stroller, it is essential to know what tools are needed for cleaning and to gather them together; then, it is easier and faster when doing the practical work. Here are the essential things:

  1. Vacuum cleaner or lint roller: You may also need tools to clean up loose dirt such as a vacuum cleaner or lint roller.
  2. Soft cloth or sponge: Use a soft cloth or sponge that won’t damage the fabric or frame of the stroller for cleaning.
  3. Mild child-safe detergent: Use a gentle, chemical-free cleaning solution. Use detergents made for children or delicate fabrics.
  4. Warm water: Make a cleaning solution by mixing warm water with detergent to remove tough or light dirt and stains.
  5. Soft brush: Use a soft-bristled brush if the stain is tough and tight. But make sure it doesn’t scratch the fabric of the stroller.

Tip: Avoid harsh chemicals and damaging ingredients. There is no substitute for keeping the stroller safe and clean for your baby.

Removing and Cleaning Detachable Components

Remove the doona stroller’s detachable components, such as the seat cover, canopy, or harness, before cleaning it.

It is convenient to separate these in the Donna stroller. Removing them before cleaning makes maintenance easier. This separation provides an opportunity to clean the dirt trapped in the inner curve. Here are the removal instructions for you:

Seat Cover

  • You must read the manufacturer’s guidelines before removing the seat cover.
  • First, find what attaches the seat cover to the frame. It can be secured with a button or, clip or chain. You will find in the manufacturer’s guidelines what method is used.
  • After that, remove the seat cover very slowly so as not to tear it.

Cleaning process:

  • Wipe the seat cover very lightly with a soft cloth. You can use a mild detergent or soap if it is heavily soiled.
  • Wipe off the soapy water thoroughly with a damp cloth and let it air dry.

Harness

  • Locate the area where the harness is attached to the frame.
  • As per the manufacturer, release the harness from the stroller frame.

Cleaning process:

  • As per manufacturer guidelines, use your hands or a machine to wash the harness of the Doona Stroller. You may use mild soap and a soft brush to remove heavy dirt and dry it in the air.

Canopy

  • First, fold the stroller or fully recline the seat.
  • Detach the canopy by pressing the button or releasing the lever according to the manufacturer’s instructions.

Steps of Cleaning the Infant Insert of the Doona Stroller

Step 1- Removing Infant Insert

The infant insert must first be removed before starting the cleaning process. Do you know what the infant insert of the stroller is? An infant insert is an extra padded cushion inside the stroller for the comfort of a very young child or newborn.

However, it must be removed before cleaning. Read the attached manufacturer’s instructions carefully before releasing the infant insert. It will help you to remove the insert easily. Here are the instructions:

  • Unbuckle the straps from snaps, buckle or Velcro.
  • Gently pull out the insert from the stroller. Don’t force when pulling out the insert; it can be damaged.

Step 2- Cleaning the Infant Insert

The fabric of the infant insert is very delicate and should not be washed with detergents. Handwash or machine wash with a permitted cleaning solution according to the manufacturer’s guidelines.

You can use a soft brush if there is excess dirt or stains. Ensure the infant insert is completely air-dried before putting it back in the stroller.

Steps of Cleaning the Fabric of the Doona Stroller

Step 1- Vacuum Cleaning

There can be two types of dirt in the stroller’s fabric: harsh dirt or stains and loose dirt or dust. You must take the help of a vacuum cleaner to clean this loose dirt or dust before wiping it with a wet cloth.

Loose dirt and dust can cause your baby physical problems like sneezing or breathing problems, so clean them first with a vacuum cleaner.

Step 2- Spot Cleaning

  • Mark the stains on the fabric first. It will be convenient to work quickly while cleaning. Next, mix the manufacturer’s permitted and fabric-appropriate detergent or cleaner solution with water to make a cleaning mixture.
  • Gently scrub the stained areas with a soft brush. Scrub in such a way that the fabric does not get pickled or discolored.

Step 3- Wipe the Fabric

It is time to wipe the fabric with a mild cleaning solution. For this, you need the soft cloth mentioned above. You can also use wet wipes here if you want.

Wipe the fabric over the stroller, including the brushed areas, using a damp cloth or wet wipes. Doing this will sanitize the entire fabric by removing stains and dirt.

Step 4- Drying the Fabric

  • Air drying should be done to dry the fabric.
  • For this, choose an adequately ventilated place to dry the fabric.

Cleaning the Frame of the Doona Stroller

Cleaning the stroller doesn’t just end with cleaning its infant insert and fabric; it’s also crucial to clean its frame. Here is the cleaning process:

Wipe the frame: The frame should be gently wiped with warm water and a soft fabric. The water should be relatively calm as it may discolor the frame. If you want, you can use mild detergent and a soft brush to remove stubborn dirt.

Use a soft and dry fabric: To remove the soapy water from the frame, wipe the frame thoroughly with a soft cloth soaked in normal water. Then tap the frame lightly with a dry, soft cloth to remove the wetness or the frame may rust.

Cleaning Wheels: Before cleaning the wheels of the stroller, remove the visible dirt first. Then, use a brush to scrub away heavy stains and dirt with detergent or soap. Wash the wheels in normal cold water and wipe them with a clean, dry cloth.

Tip: Avoid using a harsh scrubber to clean the frame, and don’t dry it under sunlight. These may cause damage to the stroller frame.

Accurately Reassembling the Stroller

Correctly reassembling the Doona stroller after cleaning is essential to the cleaning process. Here is the process:

  • Refer to the manufacturer’s manual for specific instructions on reassembly.
  • Begin by carefully securing the disassembled components, ensuring proper alignment and engagement of attachment points.
  • Check that all fasteners, such as screws or clips, are securely tightened.
  • Thoroughly inspect harnesses and other safety features to ensure they are correctly reinstalled.
  • Taking the time to reassemble the stroller methodically guarantees that every part is securely attached, contributing to the stroller’s overall safety and reliability.
