Prepare for the Cleaning Process

Before you jump on to the actual process of cleaning your stroller, you have to have your weapons (just kidding, cleaning materials) handy.

Cleaning Materials For Cleaning Stroller

Since pee leaves odors and stains, you need to choose the right type of cleaning materials to get maximum results. Here is what to prepare before you start to clean pee from the stroller.

Baby-friendly detergent

Babies have sensitive skin and can react negatively when they come in contact with harsh chemicals and detergents. This is why it is very important to use child-friendly detergent while cleaning your baby’s stroller.

Go for a fragrance-free, mild detergent with a clean ingredients list. I use Seventh Generation Concentrated Laundry Detergent Liquid for cleaning my baby gear, and it works quite well.

Before putting the stroller fabric into the washing machine, I like to spot-clean the focused areas with a brush and some warm water and liquid soap mixture. This helps to soften the stain and helps remove it completely.

Toothbrush

Although not necessary, the toothbrush helps you to scrub a particular area without needing to scrub the entire thing. You can pre-soak the dedicated area and use the toothbrush to scrub off the stain before washing.

Another good thing about using a toothbrush is that it can reach the nooks and corners of the stroller where your hands or the vacuum can’t reach. You can also clean the stroller wheels more effectively with a toothbrush.

Sponge

If you are having an unlucky day, you might experience a full-on diaper blowout or a potty-training accident, which means a toothbrush cannot save the day. This is where you need a sponge.

Use a sponge to soak up the urine if you still have the chance. If not, you can use the sponge to rub off the pee from the stroller fabric by making a detergent mixture of liquid detergent and warm water.

Use Child-friendly Detergent To Clean Stroller

Baby-friendly stain remover spray.

In case you delayed washing the pee off your stroller right away, possibilities are you are stuck with a stubborn yellowish stain that won’t budge using only detergent. In this situation, a baby-friendly stain remover spray comes in handy.

The Babyganics Stain and Odor Remover is a good product to get rid of these stains. Apart from pee stains, vomit or poop can also leave lingering stains which can hamper hygiene and the appearance of your stroller. You can use the stain remover to treat these as well.

Another excellent stain remover for baby gear is the Grandma’s Secret Spot Remover. This product is especially effective for tougher stains.

Dish Soap

If you are unwilling to purchase a separate stain remover spray for your stroller, you can also use dish soap to do the job. Dish soaps have proven to remove pee stains from stroller fabrics effectively. However, the ingredients list of the dish soap may not be child-friendly.

Anti-bacterial wipes

Although detergents, sponges, and sprays can be used to clean the stroller seat and fabrics, its frames and wheels need some additional care to be completely clean. To disinfect the structural parts and make it pee-free, using anti-bacterial wipes will help.

One of my favorite anti-bacterial wipes for my baby gear is the Clorox Bleach Free Wipes. I take these wipes with me during traveling as well to keep my children’s strollers germ-free on the go.

Warm water

Whether you hand wash or machine wash your stroller fabric, using warm water will help clean it deeply. Instead of using too cold or hot water, using warm water will maintain the quality of your stroller and also clean it without damaging its properties.

Towels

Although not for cleaning, keeping a fresh towel handy will help you clean the detergents or sprays if you accidentally use excess. You can also use clean, dry towels to wipe dry dirt off the frame and wheels.

Vacuum Cleaner (if needed)

If there is dry debris in the stroller and you want to clean it deep, use a vacuum cleaner. Using the crevice head on the vacuum will help take out the small dirt in the corners.

Additional Tips: Put the stroller fabric back in the frame while it is still damp. Drying the fabric completely outside the frame may shrink it.

How to Prevent Getting Pee in the Stroller

As we all know, prevention is better than cure. Although strollers need regular cleaning regardless of pee accidents, the pee makes the cleaning process a lot more difficult. Here are some preventive steps you can take to keep your stroller away from any liquid.

  1. Using Waterproof Stroller Liners

Stroller liners are a great way to prevent pee or other bodily material from getting into the stroller seat. I used the Piddle Pad Car Seat and Stroller Protector to keep my stroller clean. It helps keep the liquid away from the stroller seat, and it is easily washable.

  1. Regularly Check Your Baby’s Diaper

Even if you are using a high-quality diaper, there is always a possibility of diaper leaks. No matter where your destination takes you, make sure to schedule regular diaper checks to avoid the risk of getting pee in your stroller.

Encourage Potty Training Habits
